Thalassovenator

A massive predator that spends vast amounts of time dynamically soaring over the deep ocean in search of prey. When likely food is spotted, Thalassovenator will spiral upward above its target, before closing all its fins in a way similar to a marlin as it nosedives towards its prey. Its streamlined body and razor like jaw cuts through the surface tension of the water as to not injure itself as it harpoons a shark or whale or similarly sized organism with its own body. Thalassovenator will then swim to the surface with its quarry and float as it eats. They are capable swimmers, making use of a wide paddle like tail and their strong wings even when submerged. Females typically have smaller and less vibrant fins and frills.

Design inspired by sea birds such as gannets and frigate birds, as well as some elements from sailfish and mosasaurs. This was one of my first major attempts at coloring digitally.
